Class and Coffee with Annie Hanauer

Class
9.30am to 11am

With a mix of set material and guided improvisation, we will explore articulation, flow, and movement textures, using body, voice, and touch to activate our presence. We will approach the serious business of dancing with generosity towards ourselves and our fellow dancers, using the class structure to tap into our own curiosity and enjoyment.

We will try to connect deeply, and, also, to get sweaty while dancing to music.

This session is open to experienced dancers from a range of backgrounds. Disabled and non-disabled dancers welcome.

Cafe event (at a local café)
11.30am to 1pm

Join Annie and the Groundwork team after class for a coffee and to start a conversation and hear peoples’ thoughts, experiences and strategies on ‘Representation in performance and the artists’ role’.

In Rachid Ouramdane's Tenir le temps, Annie Hanauer articulates the choreography with unforced precision, her natural demeanor and smooth transitions the perfect fit for Ouramdane's undulating, abstract patterns

Biography

Annie Hanauer is an independent dance artist based between London and France, originally from the USA. Annie regularly collaborates with other artists as a performer, initiates her own choreographic projects, and facilitates classes and workshops nationally and internationally. Her current research is focused on how we can invite connectivity and sharpen group instinct in improvised performance, and she is interested in creating work which brings hidden stories and processes to light. Annie believes dancing is for everyone, and is interested in dismantling the idea of a normative dancing body.

Annie currently performs around the world with long-time collaborators Rachid Ouramdane/CCN2 Grenoble and Emanuel Gat Dance (France), and regularly leads classes, workshops, and intensives around the UK and abroad. Annie danced with Candoco Dance Company (UK) from 2008-2014, where she devised and toured the work of 14 choreographers and lead diverse creative and educational projects internationally. She now continues her relationship to the company as a Candoco Associate Artist. She is one-third of AnnieVickySarah (AVS), a collective of 3 female independent dance artists launched in 2017, focused on artistic exploration, investigating ideas of inclusive practice, and supporting professional development for disabled and non-disabled dance artists. Annie’s choreographic work has been supported by Arts Council England, Siobhan Davies Dance, Candoco Dance Company, CCN2 Grenoble, and The Place.
